Andy’s Starts

QB: Matthew Stafford @ Jacksonville Jaguars

The Detroit quarterback is coming off the bye week and meets a Jacksonville defense that has yielded three different top-10 finishes to the quarterback position over the season. The two players they didn’t allow top finishes? Baker Mayfield and Carson Wentz. This should be the week Stafford gets it going, as he is taking on a team that is rated 26th versus opposing fantasy quarterbacks. He additionally was the ninth overall quarterback versus New Orleans the last time he played and showed he means business. With Kenny Golladay in the mix, Stafford’s numbers will proceed to grow.

RB: Myles Gaskin vs. New York Jets

This week, Gaskin is up opposite a Jets defense that has conceded top-12 fantasy performances to opposing running backs the last four weeks. For some reason, the Jets just can’t quit their coach, so this “run all over the Jets” mantra should stick for another week. In his previous game, Gaskin came out blazing, taking in five passes and receiving a bulk of the goal-line work. He has the chance to have yet another outstanding contest, and his quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will keep getting him the rock. Andy gathers this is the week Miami gets themselves to .500.

WR: Odell Beckham Jr. @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Beckham was sent home from practice on Thursday with an undisclosed illness. As of the recording of the podcast, no one was sure what was going on with OBJ. Andy declared he would give his pivot on Friday’s show if it were made more clear. This week, Beckham will take on a Pittsburgh secondary that has not looked great as of late. They are bleeding points to the wide receiver position while doing an admirable job of stopping the run game. The Steelers are ranked 28th when it comes to fantasy points allowed. That defense let Travis Fulgham and his Eagles rack up 45 fantasy points when Philadelphia took on Pittsburgh. Remember, that was with Carson Wentz, so the Browns should see a similar outing. The Steelers have allowed top-12 numbers to the wideouts in three of four weeks (the only team not to hit that milestone was the Denver Broncos). Beckham is set up for success in this week’s clash.

TE: Evan Engram vs. Washington Football Team

Yes, Engram finds himself here yet again. He takes on a Washington organization this week, yielding many points to opposing tight ends. Gerald Everett made it look effortless when facing Washington, a group that is now ranked 30th in fantasy points allowed. In last week’s matchup, Engram obtained his first top-10 game of the season, and he saw that with limited volume. The day would have been a more significant one for Engram, but he did have a touchdown called back due to a penalty. In that game, Engram even happened to have a few rushes. This game could be his second top-10 game of the year.

Jason’s Starts

QB: Cam Newton vs. Denver Broncos

First and foremost, Newton ranks seventh in points per game, even with one dud of a game. The Patriots quarterback battles a Broncos defense that is not scary (giving up the ninth-most points to quarterbacks they face). They do not let running backs gain many fantasy points, so the narrative says the Patriots quarterback will have to throw the ball. You could argue Newton has already missed time this season, but that was an asymptomatic Covid-19 circumstance. He was not attempting to recover and only had to wait to be reinstated. Newton is exceptional for the game of football and great for fantasy football as well, so feel confident putting him in your starting lineup this week.

RB: Ronald Jones II vs. Green Bay Packers

It makes me delighted to see Jones on Jason’s list as he is from my hometown. It’s also refreshing to see him here because he has looked great over the last few weeks. Over his last two weeks, he has gained 217 yards on 37 carries while also being targeted 14 times. The Packers defense, who Jones faces this week, are tied with the Carolina Panthers for worst at giving up points to running backs on a per-game basis. Watch for Tom Brady to utilize the middle of the field where Green Bay is soft. Jones should have another solid game this week.

WR: A.J. Brown vs. Houston Texans

Last season, Brown had monster games facing the Texans in both meetings. He saw targets 21 times while grabbing 12 balls for 238 yards and two touchdowns. And this was not a situation where games were averaged together, having one incredible matchup and one dismal match. Instead, he had two outstanding games, catching a touchdown in each game and going over 100-yards per matchup. He may have gotten off to a slow start this year, but he is now picking up steam. Brown faces a Houston team that should stay in the game, so look for Ryan Tannehill to find one of his favorite targets plenty in this contest.

TE: Darren Fells @ Tennessee Titans

Here’s a player you probably haven’t heard too much about this year. Fells is a tight end you can presumably claim off of waivers because he is available everywhere. You can toss him in your lineup if you are chasing a touchdown and feel safe about it. The Tennessee Titans are the team Fells is matched against, and they have not been reliable against tight ends. They have not given up much this season to TEs, but they have not had to face quality tight ends this season (except Denver’s Noah Fant in the first week). Jason believes we will see Fells with five receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown versus Tennessee. If there is one tight end not named Mark Andrews or Travis Kelce that can fall into a touchdown, that player would be Fells.

Mike’s Starts

QB: Ben Roethlisberger vs. Cleveland Browns

Big Ben is Mike’s selection for quarterback start of the week. This week, Roethlisberger and crew encounter a Cleveland team that has yielded three top-10 quarterbacks on the season. The other two quarterbacks they have met were Dwayne Haskins and Philip Rivers, if that says anything. Roethlisberger has a ton of weaponry at his disposal, and all his wide receivers are set up for success this week. The Browns cannot defend the pass, so Roethlisberger looks to come out swinging. He has had a substantial start to the season, and he will try to extend this in Week 6.

RB: David Montgomery @ Carolina Panthers

Mike made sure to point out that you start your running backs against the Panthers (unless, of course, it’s Kenyan Drake). The only running back that has faced the Panthers so far and not had a good game was Drake. Chicago’s Montgomery is up against Carolina this week, a team that was already performing poorly against the run. Now they are missing their defensive tackle Kawann Short who is having season-ending shoulder surgery, so they will be even worse. Montgomery is the play at running back this week. The Panthers have let the running back position have a touchdown in four of the games this year, so Montgomery will work to continue this pattern.

WR: The Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receivers vs. Cleveland Browns

Triple whammy! Mike concluded he did not like just one wide receiver from the Steelers this week but ALL of the Steelers’ wideouts. They will be meeting a Cleveland team conceding the third-most points to wide receivers. Andy forced Mike to rank the wideouts, so he put JuJu Smith-Schuster on top, followed by Chase Claypool and Diontae Johnson. Mike knows you invested in Claypool this week, so positioning him in your lineup is a given. A healthy Johnson will be a playable asset as well. These guys mesh well with Roethlisberger, so take notice of them working over the Browns defense this week.

TE: T.J. Hockenson vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Hockenson is in a perfect situation this week. He battles the Jaguars and a defense allowing 14 points per game to rival tight ends. In points per game, Hockinson comes in as TE9. He should put up tremendous numbers this week opposing Jacksonville. Tight ends have tallied four scores against the Jaguars, and Hockenson has a chance to make it five (or more if we’re optimistic). Feel comfortable starting him in your tight end slot in week 6.

You guys were wrong on 90% of your picks. With exception to the TEs Hockerson and Fells (who had a huge day). You guys prob don’t do a review of your picks the following week because they don’t look to pan out. Same goes with those Yahoo Fantasy FFB guys – they’re wrong at least half of the time
